Ginetta Cars Visit - 23rd January 2014
An old story from the PRBA website as an example of an archived news story.......

A group of PRBA'ers turned out to make a success of the first of our social events of 2014 -

A visit to the Ginetta Car factory in Garforth, Leeds.

Firstly we had a presentation all about the cars and the world of Ginetta in the boardroom of the factory, and I think that we were all quite surprised to find that the boardroom in this state-of-the-art factory was actually a traditional, wood-panelled snooker room!

Here we were allowed to hold and pass around the le Mans 24-hour race trophies, not just the winner's trophy but the manufacturer's trophy too.

We were then released into the factory and on the mezzanine floor, we saw the carbon fibre panels and body parts workshops, then downstairs to the engine workshop where the Ford 1800 Vtec engines are rebuilt into a racing Ginetta engine, on to the framework build, the engine testing, assembly and then in and amongst the Ginetta's in various states of rebuild and storage; including the original Ginetta Safety Car which appeared on the BTCC tracks up and down the country, a number of famous cars including the car in which Lawrence Tomlinson (Ginetta company owner) won the le Mans 24-hour, and other Ginettas of various ages and types, including a beautiful grey model displaying an original 'C' registration plate. We all decided on our favourites.......

Ginetta cars have been around since 1958, and since Lawrence Tomlinson took the helm, they have absolutely no intention of disappearing as they are making a huge mark on the motorsport map!

Thank you to everyone who came along to support the first of our new calendar of social events, and even bigger thanks to Ruth, Hayley and Ash of Ginetta for an interesting and entertaining tour.

Has Malcolm signed up for one yet?!

Next social visit: RAF Linton-on-Ouse ATC & Met Office - 13th March 2014 at 11am
