|Over the weekend we had various flying and non-flying competitions. The first two flying competitions were judge declared goals, these were won by Dave court (closest to Wilf’s Café in Staveley) and Caroline Collins (Closest to the Gilpin Bridge Inn).
On Saturday afternoon we had a tug o’ war and a driving challenge when entrants had to guess judge the width of the car and drive between the poles, the competition was won by Dan Baron, who got the gap down to 5cm, there were several disqualifications, chief amongst whom was Chris Wootton for folding the mirrors in. Sunday morning saw a Hare and Hounds competition take place, with Dave Marshall acting as the hare. Dave managed to land back in the take-off field after an hour’s flight with Chris Wootton winning the competition, landing some 150 or so yards away. Bob Jones and John Hartley worked incredibly hard to claim second and third places. Steve Donkin (Retrieving for Chris Wootton) was awarded best pointless retrieve, for his 2 ½ hour drive around Cumbria, for no reason whatsoever.
A fancy dress barbeque took place on Sunday evening, with pretty much everyone taking part in some fantastic costumes. Beer flowed, vodka jelly babies were eaten and a good time was had by all concerned. Roll on next year!
